Pebbles

Our ALYOS pattern was a Little Bites pattern called Sample.   I broke open a batik charm pack and had fun.

I am calling this mini Pebbles.  The mix of colors reminded of a stream full of rocks and the circular quilting the pattern the water makes after you throw a pebble in the water.

The sample pattern includes more blocks but I choose to make 9 of them:

Top row: Three & Six, Pennsylvania   , Churn Dash
Middle row:  Split 9-Patch,  Air Castle, Wild Geese
Bottom Row:  True Blue, Ohio Star, Eclectic Star

I love, love, love this mini.  The quilt finished at 19" square.

I love do spiral quilting and this mini was quick and easy.   I've a tutorial if you are interested.

Kaleidoscope

Kaledioscope is my mini 12" quilt.  I used the paper pieced blocks and the scraps of my American brand solids.   Trying to match colors across blocks hurt my head a bit (sigh) but I am happy with the final effect.   I love do spiral quilting and this mini was quick and easy.   I've a tutorial if you are interested.

The pattern was here.

The last 2014 Schnibble

This pattern for our December challenge was Sheri's Mini Shine quilt.  I found some fabric that would work for Christmas and also into January.  Decided to make a 4 block version - I think I'll make another version in spring colors.

I stitched in the ditch around the stars and the sashing.

Nasty weather here today so I had to go for an indoor photo.

I've participated each month in ALYOS - here is a mosaic of my finishes

Top row - Coloring Outside the Lines (January), Buttons (February), Sparkle (March)
2nd row - Tapestry (April  - now lives in France), Doodle (May), e (September)
3rd row - Christmas Star (October), Mini Stems (November), Ice (December)

What fun!

Parade time later this week on Sheri's blog A Quilting Life and Sinta's Pink Pincushion blog.

Mini Stems

Made a mini Mini Stems (pattern here at Fig Tree and Company) using Moda Horizon charm pack and some green from my stash.

The straight line quilting was fun to do - especially when the project is small.

This pattern was this month's challenge and the Schnibble parade time is Monday at A Quilting Life and Pink Pincushion blog.

I didn't bother to deal with the malls and black Friday shopping after Thanksgiving.  I did, however, get a head start on Cyber Monday!

e

Our challenge for this month's Another Lovely Year of Schnibbles was the Little Bites pattern called Whit.

I had a single charm pack of Elementary so made half of the pattern.... or a mini mini.

I've named this e.   (Remember logs and exponents from high school?)   I just love the colors in this mini and making tiny flying geese was fun.

I've already gotten a good start on our challenge for October - the Schnibble pattern Harvey.  I wanted to use stash so I went with these beautiful charm packs and some gold background fabric.

I didn't have enough gold to make the pattern to size so I sized down the blocks so each HST is 3" unfinished.  I also decided to turn my basket into a star!  (Didn't have enough background fabric but did have a third charm pack.)   I am just loving all these fabrics together so far.

Parade time tomorrow at A Quilting Life and Pink Pincushion blog.

elementary geese

This month's challenge for Another Lovely Year of Schnibbles Little Bites pattern which is called Whit!   I wanted to use a mini-charm pack of Moda Elementary and only had one so I made half of a Whit.

I am thinking about a top and bottom border wide enough for this to finish as a square.   I keep thinking it looks too small but then remind myself this was the whole idea - use what I have and create a mini-mini.

What do you think?

mini baby geese

Measuring a mini 2" by 1 1/4".

Aren't they sweet?  These cuties are made from a mini-charm pack of Sweetwater Elementary and a bella solid called Parchment that I had in my stash.

A favorite sewing notion is the clothes pin.  So handy!

They are for this month's Another Lovely Year of Schnibbles Little Bites pattern which is called Whit!  There are 3 settings possible.  Looking forward to assembling these beauties into a mini.

Doodle

The Schnibble X-Rated is for just using a single charm pack and making a smaller size.  I used a single charm pack of Sweetwater Noteworthy for mine.  The corners are fussy cut.

Just can't resist doing circular quilting on my smaller quilts.  So much fun!

This is the last of the ALYOS for a few months.  ALYOS are hosted by Sinta and Sherri including the monthly parade coming up on June 1.  (How could it be June already?)

Here for my NC License plate?? - see this post!

Schnibble project - X rated

This month's ALYOS project is X-Rated.  This is a perfect Schnibble for just using a single charm pack and making a smaller size.  (ALYOS are hosted by Sinta and Sherri.)

I decided to go for a layout of 4 by 4 x's instead of the 6 x 6.  I have not yet decided on the border.  For those also doing this pattern, you'll notice I added an extra square to the edge.  This wasn't by design - I just got myself confused and then decided to go with it!

If you haven't already entered my SMS Giveaway for a charm pack of Amelia, please visit this post.   I just love getting entries from all over the world.

Friday brings the Blogger's Quilt Festival - can't wait to share my entries.  See my sidebar to click for more information.

Tapestry

This ALYOS month's challenge is this mini quilt pattern is Round and Round.

A very enjoyable quick pattern!   I actually made it a bit bigger but still plan to go back and make it the smaller size.  I used a mini charm pack of Moda Tapestry.  Love, love this fabric line.

Did some straight line quilting.   Looking forward to the parade tomorrow at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs.

Sparkle on a rainy day

This month's Schnibble was Hook.

I used a charm pack of Moda Wishes to make a smaller version ( 26" by 29") then the pattern called for.

I had fun again with the circular quilting.  I put hanging corners on 3 of the corners (quilt label on the 4th) so that it can be hung as shown here with the wide dimension long or can be hung with the narrow dimension long.  (Make sense?)

It was a wet and rainy weekend so I ran outside to get a shot between showers.  There are these twigs that fit perfectly to hold up the quilt!

My backyard is mainly wooded which provides great privacy in the summer.  This time of year, you can see the house in the back if you look carefully through the trees.

Schnibble parade tomorrow at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs.  I am interested to see what the April challenge is all about.

Sparkle

I like going in circles.

Did circular quilting again on this month's Schnibble.   The pattern is called Hook but my Schnibble is called Sparkle!

I did it smaller that the pattern called for and it is 26" by 29".  I am thinking about a red binding or a solid blue.

I just finished reading Sue Monk's The Invention of Wings.  It is a wonderful book set in Charleston prior to the start of the Civil War.  One of the key characters is a quilter.

Buttons

This is my Schnibble Little Bites Mite made for this month's parade.   The fabric used is Moda Little Apples, all carefully arranged to get the color all going the right way.

I did a spiral quilting with my walking foot and just love the way it looks.

I decided to call the quilt Buttons.  I can not really explain why!

Parade tomorrow at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs.

Coloring outside the lines

I used a single charm pack of La Petite Ecole and a large scrap of Luna Notte to make my smaller version of this month's Schnibble.

I spent far too much time with my seam ripper during the assembly process.  As a result, some of the blocks were not quite as neat and tidy as I would have liked.

I decided to take a risk on the quilting - hence the coloring outside the lines blog post title.  Instead of just doing an overall meander, I decided to go with the feather theme.  I love how my four feathers turned out on the inner sashings and the border feathers are ok.  However, not overly fond of what I did in the blocks themselves.

That said, I did have a blast doing the FMQ.  Feathers really are fun.  Next time, I need to try for something which does feathers over the whole quilt - ignoring the blocks themselves.

Looking forward to seeing what others have done with their fabric choices with parade time at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs

Snowflake

This month's challenge in Another Lovely Year of Schnibbles is a pattern called Morning Joe.  It is a beautiful quilt but it finishes at a size larger than I wanted to tackle in this busy month.  So I decided to just make a portion of of the quilt and using my mini charm pack of In From the Cold.

Parade time at Sinta's and Sherri's blog is a week away.  Looking forward to seeing what others have done with their fabric choices.

Countdown to my 500th post giveaway  - this is post 495!

This month's Schnibble

This month's Schnibble from ALYOS (hosted at Sinta's and Sherri's blog ) is called Morning Joe.

I am quite interested in making mini-quilts right now.  This particular Schnibble pattern finishes at 53x53 which is bigger than I want.  So I decided to make a couple of smaller blocks using a mini charm pack. Carrie's instructions are fun - I especially like when she includes instructions which go something like 'trim your blocks and then eat a piece of chocolate'.

What fun they were to assemble!   The blocks finish at 6 1/2 inches.  Here is what I have leftover -  a couple of charms I didn't use and enough HST to make one more block.  The only problem is I can't get the green and red aligned the way I did in the first 4.

Pumpkin Spice

Parade time at Sinta's and Sherri's blog as we wrap up another month of Another Year of Schnibbles.   This month's challenge pattern was called Clover.

I made a 4 square version (instead of 9) and used some charm squares from Phenomenal Fall (Moda).

To quilt, I just stitched in the ditch in both directions.  I like the grid it formed on the back as well has the final look.

I've named this quilt Pumpkin Spice.  (My daughter made a pumpkin pie this weekend - almost called it pumpkin pie!)

Trees are just beginning to turn here in central NC.  I had a wonderful picnic and walks with my girls on Sunday.

Found the fabric, now I need a name for the quilt

Last week, I blogged about aliens - Daleks to be precise - that had entered my quilting space in broad
daylight and stolen a precious and limited supply of 2" quilt squares on my background fabric which meant my Schnibble was in a very incomplete state.

Those squares were never found and my trip to my LQS just didn't fit in my schedule.   I was pretty sure the fabric was Moda solid called Parchment.   But to be on the safe side, I ordered a couple of others that were close in coloring when looking at a computer monitor.

Fabric arrived.  It was parchment.

Quilt is all assembled.   I am just loving the colors.  I hope to quilt it next weekend and then promptly display it.

Now I need a name and a decision on how to quilt it!

Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Aliens in my Sewing Room

A warm fall day on Saturday and I spent a couple of relaxing hours in my sewing corner.

The pattern is Schnibble Clover.   I am just in love with these colors in Moda Phenomenal Fall by Sandy Gervais.  I didn't want to use up all of my two charm packs in one quilt so I made a 4 block version instead of a 9 block version.

Very easy to assemble!  However, since I was making a smaller quilt than the pattern I needed to do some math to figure out the fabric requirements.

That is where the aliens came in.   I cut my squares for the background from a just big enough scrap of what I think is Moda Bella solid called Parchment.   I sewed and assembled and as I got ready to assemble the final corners I found that I am SIX squares short.  How could that possible be?

Clearly I didn't count wrong or figure wrong! (smile)  Must have been those pesky aliens that crept into my sewing room and made off with those squares.

Off to my LQS with a scrap in hand.  Wish me luck.

Boo is finished

Did some FMQ this weekend to finish up my Boo Schnibble.  I did loops and then kept quilting the word BOO.  I was working on keeping my FMQ stitches even in size.

The fabric I used was Sweetwater's Boo Crew.  I love the cut little monsters in the print.

Looking forward to the parade as part of another year of Schnibble Vintage lead by Sinta and Sherri.
