Farmer's Wife 1930's - Tirzah (96) & Tracy (97)

TWO more blocks!!

Tirzah (96) - Like the block, it was fun to do but wish I had done it in white instead of the orange!

Tracy (97) - Used the last of my red scraps to make this one!

I put together a pinterest board of just my Farmer's Wife blocks so I can get a good look at them all at once.  Time to start focusing on the right variety of fabric combinations.

Interested in playing along?  These are from the book -   Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt and there are two great quilt alongs with plenty of tips and ideas.  VeryKerryBerry  is doing the blocks in numerical order while Gnome Angel is doing them in order from easiest to hardest.

Farmer's Wife 1930's - Rosemary (88) & Ruby (89)

As I get closer to the 99 block mark, I find that I'm choosing colors based on what fabric I have the most of.  I think I'll sit and do some better planning for these last ten blocks.

Rosemary (88) -  I like this block - mixes together my favorite fabrics.

Ruby (89) - I didn't realize that the stripes don't join neatly on the diagonal by design until I sew it together, took it apart and tried to find a way for things to match.

Farmer's Wife 1930'2 - Priscilla (86) & Prudence (87)

Two more blocks this week although, sadly, not thrilled with my ability to follow directions on either of them.

Priscilla (86) - This block looks not quite as orange in person as it does in the photo.  This was an easy block with few pieces but I still had to do it twice since I messed up the color placement the first time!

Prudence (87)  -   I marked up the printed pattern a bit to avoid a large amount of odd shaped y seams.  Now that the block is all done, though, I see I made a bit of a mistake in the coloring  - those 4 outer corners of the 9 patch are supposed to be HST.  Not changing it though.  I like it the way it is!

Farmer's Wife 1930's - Posy (84) & Primrose (85)

Two more Farmer's Wife blocks this week.

Posy (84) - I actually made this block twice.  I redrew it in EQ7 myself to avoid any pesky y-seams but then managed to print it at the wrong size - 4 '' block vs 6 ''.   I can't truly explain why I did notice this as I was doing the paper piecing.  It was a reasonably fast sew so the second block was quick to do.

Primrose (85) -  Not sure whether I like the big band of white in the middle or not.  But I think it will work just fine in the overall final quilt.

You can see photos of many of my other blocks on this post.

Farmer's Wife 1930's - Pharlemia (82) & Poppy (83)

Two more blocks this week.

Pharlemia (82)  - I lam happy with how this block turned out

Farmer's Wife block 82

Poppy (83) -  So many pieces with this one.  But it is done, and done is good!

Farmer's Wife - Patricia (80) & Peony (81)

One easy block and one not so easy block...

Patricia (80) - how could I not like this block which I am apparently named after.  :-)   I did switch up the coloring to make it a more traditional churn dash instead of what the coloring in the book suggested

Farmer's Wife Patricia

Peony (81) - Definitely in the not so easy category.  I pieced all the little sections before I realized there were partial seams.  Not pretty but done is good.

Each time I complete a group of 9, I do a group shot.  So here we go through block 81.   There are 99 blocks in total so I'm two group shots away from being done!

Farmer's Wife - Old Maid (78) & Patience (79)

Is the end in sight?  99 blocks in total so 20 more to go.  I should be thinking about how I'm going to put these blocks together but really haven't yet!

Old Maid (78)  - This was a fun fabric color combination to assemble

Patience (79) - I thought about doing this with a square from each of the fabrics used but decided to with a nice easy combination.

Farmer's Wife - Nancy (76) & Nellie (77)

Two more blocks this week - another one in my sister series - I've a sister named Nancy!

Nancy (76) - Nice easy block - I like this fabric combination

Nellie (77) - I was almost going to skip ahead given this one has so many pieces but did the block.  It looks like it needs a good pressing. Some of those tiny squares are a bit wonky but I'll never notice in the bigger quilt.

Farmer's Wife 1930's - Mrs. Smith (72) & Mrs. Taft (73)

Two new blocks this week plus a review of all the blocks - group shots for each nine blocks!

Mrs. Smith (72) - Slightly wonky block both because I didn't press it and, well, because it is a bit off.  Had to use my seam ripper which is no fun with those tiny, tiny stitches.

Mrs. Taft (73) - I just love these two color blocks.  Such a dramatic look.

Each time I complete a group of 9, I do a group shot.  So here we go through block 72.   There are 99 blocks in total so I'm three group shots away from being done!
