Farmer's Wife 1930's: Martha (58) & Mary (59)

Fast approaching the 2/3 done point as block 66 is in my near future.  I've been storing all of my blocks away in groups of 9.  I am going to take them out soon for one giant group shot.  It is seriously getting time to think about layout and color balance before making the final third of the blocks.

Martha (58) - I love this block.  It combines two of my favorite blocks - the star and the pinwheel.

Mary (59) - Happy with the combination of the red and the gold together.

I put together a pinterest board of just my Farmer's Wife blocks so I can get a good look at them all at once.  Time to start focusing on the right variety of fabric combinations.

Interested in playing along?  These are from the book -   Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt and there are two great quilt alongs with plenty of tips and ideas.  VeryKerryBerry  is doing the blocks in numerical order while Gnome Angel is doing them in order from easiest to hardest.

My fabrics are from Moda Fig Tree.  There are so many different versions underway right now - so much inspiration out there!

Happy Stitching!

  1. Martha is a fun block! I love the blocks that are samplers within a frame of a more common block :) This is a challenge in a 6 inch size though!

  2. Oh love these blocks! I especially love the pieced star block. I also love stars and pinwheels :) How exciting to be 2/3 finished!
