Drum roll please .....................................

111 blocks done, all paper pieced.

110 blocks assembled together in a quilt top.  (The 111th block will likely go on the back.)

I started in July 2014 and made 3 blocks most weeks - with a bit of a gap over the holidays.

Now, I've got decisions to make.  The quilt currently measures 80 by 88 inches.   I had originally planned this to be for our bed (queen) which means it needs to be at least 90 by 108 inches.

The 108 dimension means 10 inches of border all the way around the quilt.  Of white.   I'm not certain I'd like the look.  Too much white.  And maybe impractical - my girls love to cover visit with me in the evenings and lay all over the bed.

I've insufficient fabric left to do a border from any of the fabrics in the quilt.

So, I need your help -

Border-less (call it done!) or add a small border - maybe 4"?

After holding the quilt for the photo, my DH 'folded' it and handed it back to me.  Rolled it into a big ball is more like it!

Deciding on the borders and the backing is my May goal for Another Lovely Year of Finishes.  I'll be linking up at Another Lovely Year of Finishes .

Happy Stitching!

  1. Congratulations on such a beautiful quilt....well worth the effort and time, for sure! I think I'd add a turquoise border to bring out the inner turquoise fabrics....whatever you decide to do....it's a winner!

  2. Beautiful.....an intense labor of love to make all these blocks. A ten inch border would probably look like an add on....maybe up to 6 inches would be better. How about a narrow band of the aqua blue-if you have enough-- and then a white border. And borderless would be perfect too!

  3. Remember that quilting will shrink the quilt a few inches. Using cotton batting will also shrink up a couple of inches the first time it is washed. This means you might want to add about 12 inches to allow for this. You could start with a small 1 inch border of white to frame it. Then maybe you could do a scrappy one of squares or rectangles of your leftov er fabrics also 1 or 1 1/2 inches. Finish up with a 3-4 inch final border. Good luck.

  4. It would be great if you had enough of the pieced fabrics. A two inch aqua - then three inch white and then a two inch red. It looks awesome regardless. I just got back to my Dear Jane and now seeing yours makes me want to really get mine finished.

  5. Yay! This quilt is gorgeous. I'd vote for a 1" finished turquoise, then a 1" finished white followed by 8" red or a multi colored fabric with all of the colors. Congratulations on a job very well done.

  6. I would add a white border ,maybe 2 inch, so the blocks float, then I know you said you didn't have enough color fabric but could you find something that goes with the fabrics you used and add a color border, then finish with a little bit wider white border. I would have to do something to make this big enough for my bed or another bed in my house because I know it was a lot of work and it is just AWESOME. I am a longarm quilter so I would have to quilt some of those blocks with feathers in that wide border it would be beautiful. Wow didn't mean for this to be so long.

  7. I love how it looks but I think it needs a border. How about a white, a skinny blue and then another white? It's going to be gorgeous no matter how you finish it off.

  8. I've been waiting to see this. It looks wonderful, so proud of you for completing it. I'm sure you can find an aqua and red to match. I just checked my color cards and RJR Fabrics have two solids that are an almost exact match. Toy Boat #366*C+5 and Rio #311 RP. you could use them with a thin white border in between them. Missouri Star Quilt company carries them and you could order just a half yard of each to make sure or find them at your local shop and check them out. Just an idea but I'm sure it will be wonderful however you decide to finish it.

  9. it looks beautiful and I can't believe how quickly it all came together! Have you got enough fabrics for a scrappy border?

  10. Congratulations on a BEAUTIFUL finish. I think I asked once before and have mislaid the info. Where did you get the paper pieced patterns from? (I have had some turmoil in my life and cannot remember where I have put things). Hugs and thank you in advance.

  11. Wonderful! Did you work from a particular pattern/book? I have been thinking about doing a Farmer's Wife quilt, but it seems pretty daunting.

  12. Beautiful! I really like the layout with the colors changing. How about a small white border and then use solid red and aqua to do a boder of each color. You'd be carrying out the changing of the colors and would get a larger quilt. If you have even small scraps, I'd piece them in with the appropriate colors here and there. Then bind in red or aqua.

  13. I gotta go with the group on this, since your layout focuses on borders, I think it would be great to add a border with multiple colors...that being said, it will be stunning, whatever you decide!!

  14. Your quilt is beautiful! Lol@DH's "folding." I like the quilt without a border but then it won't fit the bed. Decisions, decisions...

  15. Congrats on finishing, it turned out beautiful! I think you could probably find a current Bonnir and Camille line that would work nicely as a border, maybe one with red/Aqua bouquets. Lol on the last picture of the rolled up quilt...that is so what my hubs would do!
