Celtic Solstice progress

After Bonnie's big reveal on New Year's Day for the Celtic Solstice mystery, I've been busy assembling blocks and making some more!    I had enough pieces to make 17 blocks initially and have decided on a 6 by 6 layout so I needed an additional 19 blocks.

Last weekend I worked on the construction and assembly of 11 more blocks and now have 8 left to go.  These 8 blocks contain the dreaded chevron - I have trouble keeping that block square.

Slightly blurry picture below but you'll see in my not very scrappy interpretation, I used two different aqua fabrics to make both the HST and the Tri Recs.   For my layout above, I wanted to put the solid aqua in the center to really make the circles pop and then fade off on the edges to the flower aqua fabric.  Unfortunately, I've nothing left of the solid aqua so i'll play around a bit more with the layout once the other blocks are completed.

The blocks will finish at 9 inches so a 6 by 6 block layout will be 54 inches before the borders are added.  If I remember her pattern correctly, the borders add 6 inches all around so I'll be at a 66 by 66 layout.

For next years mystery, I need to remember to just be consistent - a half scrappy mystery quilt is hard to pull off!   I hope to get the remainder of the blocks assembled this weekend.

Happy Stitching!

  3. It's looking great! I'm struggling with mine this weekend. Thinking of doing a 6X8 layout with some borders and call it done.
