A stitching I will go....

I found another stitching project.  This pear is actually a stitch sampler of sorts.  It will give me the opportunity to learn some new stitches instead of my usual back-stitch.

(And yes I know I've got this stitchery in the hoop upside down - I was experimenting to see if it made holding it easier this way.)

I'm hoping to even tackle the dreaded french knot using this tutorial.

I found this on Kathy Schmitz's site.  It is intended for a tea towel but I'll be making a small mini.

I've been experimenting with using a hoop and doing stitching with or without batting.  I find I like the batting better because it makes things more stable and hides my thread tails.

Do you have any stitching going on?

Happy Stitching!

  1. Looks like fun, I love a good pear :) Google/YouTube colonial knot, much easier to be consistent with that than the french knot!

  2. I'm working on a Halloween embroidered quilt. There are around 16 12-inch blocks, so it is taking a while but I am enjoying the process.
When I embroider with a hoop, I put the design over the smaller hoop, then place the outer hoop down over that so that the fabric stretches flat over the top edge of the hoops, rather than down inside like your photo shows. You might find it easier to stitch that way.
I'm going to check out Kris's suggestion for the colonial knot. I know I dislike making french knots too!

  3. What a fun project. So, what difference does putting the hoop upside down make?

    1. Sometimes my hands will cramp up when I do a lot of stitching. Putting it in the hoop upside down meant my thumb was positioned differently. So I wanted to see if it made a difference! (Not sure yet.)
