Practically perfect

Practically perfect?   Mary Poppins certainly is.

My Farmer's Wife blocks all paper pieced?  Some are a perfect 6" but others are finishing something quite an imperfect 6".

But no fear!  I had already decided on my layout - half the blocks on point and half with sashing.   By cutting my sashing a bit wider than needed, I'll be able to trim my not so perfect blocks to be a perfect fit!

Here are the first 20 - half on point and half with sashing.   I didn't both too much about color placement for this shot.  I'm not going to worry too much about it until I a lot more of the blocks are done.

Putting aside the paper piecing for an afternoon and working on my sashing was a pleasant change of pace.

Happy Stitching!

  1. Never thought about doing a quilt with half on point, and half straight set. I love your idea!

  2. What a great idea! The layout looks fab and doing it this way does eliminate the "not quite perfect" issue... good on you! (I will be stealing this idea in the future.)

  4. What a great solution, I love the idea of half on point and half not! Don't think that would save the wonky on my DW blocks tho :)
