Block four from Barbara Brackman's Grandmother's Choice - Votes for Women Block of the Week is Kansas Sunflower.
Overall, we'll have 49 blocks when we are done. When I saw this one, I thought - well maybe 48 blocks for me!
I saw a tip which said you could make the sunflower and then applique it on. I went this way with the block. I could not get that outer B part connected - it was a major mess. I also appliqued on the center circle .. well we can pretend it is a circle. At least it is round-ish. This was the very first time I did applique where I had to turn under the edge - usually do raw edge.
I did redo my wonky block 2 with those horrible y seams and it went together quite easy this time. Block is square and flat. Unclear why that came together so easily the second time.
I do hope we get back to easier blocks like week 1 and 3.
Happy Stitching!
What a great idea! It was the B part that gave me fits too! Fab block... congratulations on such a nice finish!
ReplyDeleteHope they don't kick me out of the club but I substituted a different block named sunflower for this one, lol!
ReplyDeleteMy quilt was also going to be only 48 blocks, but then I read the discussion on Flickr. One lady was sewing her block with templates, like english paper-piecing. I´m trying that now and so far it looks great :)

Nice finish! You are GOOD!
ReplyDeleteBlock #2 kicked my butt, so I dropped out. Block #3 would have kicked me repeatedly had I not already dropped out with Block #2.
Love your colour! This block looks good.
