HO HO HO

Ho Ho Ho!!!!!



For me, Christmas means Santa Claus, Christmas Trees and quality family time.  Christmas in July?  Perhaps because of this incredibly warm summer in NC with temperatures often in the 90s or hitting 100, I dream of SNOW!

This block is 10 1/2 inches - wouldn't it be fun to make a quilt filled with all different snowflakes?  



I hadn't made paper snow flakes since I was a kid.  Somewhat like riding a bicycle, one never forgets how but those first couple of attempts - especially the upper right corner - aren't very pretty to look at.  The bottom one served as my inspiration for my quilt block.




I took a piece of white fabric and prepared it with iron on adhesive.




Then I folded into a cone like shape - adhesive side touching.- and cut the snowflake freehand as I had the paper.




I then carefully unfolded and TADA!!!  Snow in July!  I ironed it onto a blue solid and had fun thread painting the snowflake and I outlined the cut areas.

    I love this! I feel very cool just watching how you make it. These have to be so much fun because we all had fun cutting snowflakes out when we were younger.     How fun! I remember making snowflakes in elementary school. When I learned how to do them I made tons of snowflakes. I think this would be a fun project to do with the grandchildren.

    I can see using this 'paper snowflake' idea with my grandson - he can learn to make the snowflakes and I can use them to make a wallhanging - a gift to make his Mommy or teacher. Thank you for sharing with us today.

    I love snowflakes. I remember cutting out snowflakes in school. So long ago. Just so beautiful to see and to have it in a design for a pillow or even a quilt or even hanging on your Christmas Tree. Thank you for sharing your tutorial with all of your followers.

    Love your snowflake block. During my teaching career, I taught middle school mathematics and always did paper snowflakes at Christmas time. When I taught sewing, I would always challenge my students to make ornaments out of scraps or recycled items. They were always proud of what they made and were anxious to take it home and put it on their family tree. In elementary school, we always made picture ornaments with the school pictures. My tree always has only handmade ornaments that bring back many happy memories.

    I love snowflakes, too! I even have snowflake-bordered dishes for the winter. I think your technique might show up on some placemats to go with the snowflake/snowman fabric napkins I made.
